A focused, detailed, and concise audit stakeholder interview is the key to getting started to foster commitment and gather knowledge about our client product. It helps to make the right decisions, avoid end-moment disappointments, and changes to create the right product.
Basic rules:
- [ ] Ask an only open question - this is a question that requires more extensive answers. That will protect you from gaining feedback that won't be very useful.
- [ ] Don’t ask an obvious question - do your homework first and respect your interviewee's and your own time. Asking an obvious question, or those already answered, can discourage the person you talk to from further discussion.
- [ ] Do not suggest an answer - suggestive questions are prevalent mistakes in conducting interviews that significantly impact the feedback’s quality. Always check your question list to make sure you avoid that mistake.
- [ ] The question should be straightforward - if you want a clear answer, your question should be asked the same way. Ask one question at a time. Don’t confuse or overwhelm a person you are interviewing. (If you have two questions in one - split them)
- [ ] Questions should generate facts, anecdotes, opinions, attitudes, feelings, perceptions, and values.
How to manage meeting
- [ ] Choose a note-taking person - Invite another person for an interview that will help you make notes. It will let you focus on an interview, having detailed notes simultaneously. Make sure to have at least a sheet of paper for yourself if you want to write down your observations during the interview.
- [ ] Facilitator/Person in lead share a screen
- [ ] Video Recording - It will allow you to keep the whole interview archived, and you will be able to get back to it later. Also, while analyzing recordings, you can notice some non-verbal aspects of the answers you get — not only opinions but also your client’s emotions towards particular parts of the project. Always ask permission to record an interview and inform the person interviewed about its purpose.
- [ ] Meeting Structure/Agenda → Welcome, Goals presentation, Questions, Summary. Make it clear during the meeting.
